Uncle Phil's Good Ol' Stories
It was a dark age before the gods Over-Compression and Killer Limiter were to rule the music Universe.
For my own mixes, I had already been using for several years a multi-band limiter/compressor on the stereo mix bus in order to get an almost definitive sound before the pre-mastering stage.
Fot this CD, I should have used one of the software limiters available (quite few at the time, like the 32-band limiter of the Sonic Solutions) since the mix had been done in a somewhat quite normal way.
The SADiE system did not have plugins at the time. And since I was also running out of that same time (I could have transfered the audio to another station, and run it through a L-1 Waves, for example) I respected the ioriginal dynamics = Big Mistake. We were already well into this new era of stupidity, i.e. trying to raise the subjective level to it's maximum on CD.
Soon after, I discovered the joys of the SADiE limiter, a very good one indeed, but it was too late for this CD.
This album has a pitifully low subjective level.
I won't do it again.
